CONSPIRARE CHILDREN’S CHOIR TO PRESENT ‘AN OPEN BLOSSOM’ CONCERT ON APRIL 26 AT ST. MARTIN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Conspirare Children’s Choir concludes its third season with a spring concert entitled “An Open Blossom” at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, 606 West 15th Street in Austin.

The concert by the award-winning, 70-voice choir will feature a glittering array of works based on beautiful images derived from stories and poems. “The Dream Keeper,” by African-American poet Langston Hughes, is set to music by Andrea Ramsey. Another highlight will be Emily Dickinson’s “Will There Really Be A Morning?,” in a musical setting by Craig Hella Johnson and an arrangement of the beloved “Dôme Épais” (Flower Duet) from the opera Lakmé.

Led by Director Nina Revering and Assistant Directors Rick Gabrillo and Jamie Mattox, Conspirare Children’s Choir is comprised of talented singers ages 9-16. Their inaugural season culminated in the choir being named Outstanding Debut Organization of 2006 by the Austin Critics Table. The choir has performed with Ballet Austin and the Austin Symphony in a production of Carmina Burana, and sang the National Anthem for a Lance Armstrong Foundation event. In September of 2006, the Conspirare Children’s Choir was honored to perform in the rotunda of the State Capitol as part of a private memorial service for former governor Ann Richards, attended by national dignitaries including former president Bill Clinton. In addition to presenting their own holiday and spring concerts, the choir also collaborates with Conspirare adult choirs. A highlight of last season was participation in Conspirare’s NEA-sponsored American Masterpieces Festival, during which the children worked with internationally renowned director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, Henry Leck.
